About Amritsar
Amritsar is the spiritual centre of the Sikh faith and one of North India's most visited cities. The Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) sits in the middle of the Amrit Sarovar and is open to everyone, day and night, with a free community kitchen (langar) that serves tens of thousands of meals daily. A short walk away is Jallianwala Bagh, site of the 1919 massacre, and the Partition Museum in the old Town Hall. In the evening most visitors drive about 30 km to the Attari–Wagah border for the Beating Retreat ceremony. Leave time to eat — Amritsari kulcha, lassi and fish are reasons to visit on their own.
