About Dalhousie
The British set up Dalhousie in the 1850s as a summer escape and named it after Lord Dalhousie, who was Governor-General at the time. The town sits on five hills at around 2,000 m. The best thing to do here is walk. The road from Gandhi Chowk to Subhash Chowk is mostly flat and goes through deodar and pine, and on a clear day you can see snow on the peaks. The old stone churches, a few colonial bungalows and the Tibetan stalls near Gandhi Chowk are what give the town its feel. Panchpula, Dainkund, Kalatop and Khajjiar are all a short drive away, so it makes a good base for two or three easy days. From Punjab it's the nearest proper hill station to Pathankot, and plenty of people stop at Mini Goa on the way up or on the way back.
